Welcome and Why...

Welcome to the weblog of my experience finding LA's Happiest Happy Hours.

Having lived my adult life in four of the seven largest cities in the U.S. - New York, LA, Chicago and San Antonio - plus San Francisco, and being a struggling artist and total foodie in each, I am always on the lookout for good eats, cheap eats, and that rare combo of eats that are good and cheap.

Some towns are just happy hour towns. You know if you walk a block in any direction between 5:00 and 7:00 on a weeknight, you can find cheap drinks and decent bar food. Chicago tops this list, and New York is a close second. LA isn't even in the top ten. There are better happy hours in Louisville, Kentucky than in Los Angeles, or so I thought.

I searched on the Interwub for the best place to happy hour in LA and came up with a paltry few results, with no empirical assessment of quality. So my friends and I decided to make it our mission to root out the best happy hours in the southland. Well, not the whole southland, just that part of the southland that is generally bordered by the 101, 10 and 405. Inside that triangle, I can tell you where to happy hour, what to order, how much it will run you and if it's worth the trip. Occasionally, we may wander outside the triangle as well. After all, beach happy hours are awfully tempting in the summer...

Here's how it works: places are rated on a scale of 1-10 for food, deal and service with bonus points tossed in or deducted for things like parking, clientele or neighborhood vibe.
